Welcome to Empowered Holistic Counselling and Wellness. I’m Sam Murray, the founder and principal Holistic Counsellor here at Empowered. My mission is simple: to walk alongside you through life’s challenges, helping you reconnect with yourself, reclaim balance, and create a healthier, happier way of living.
Empowered was born from my own experience with burnout. Like many, I found myself working long hours, pushing through exhaustion, and ignoring the warning signs my body and mind were sending. At the height of my career, I faced the perfect storm—struggling with the demands of life, managing Endometriosis, and pretending I had it all together. Eventually, burnout caught up with me, and I was forced to confront the toll it was taking on my physical and mental health.
After months of isolating and numbing myself with Netflix, I realised I had a choice: stay stuck or create a better life. Getting honest with myself meant recognising that the environment I was in was leaving me overwhelmed and disconnected. Choosing to step away wasn’t easy, but it was necessary. It gave me the space to rediscover who I was, what I truly valued, and the life I wanted to create.
I’ve always had a natural ability to stay calm in chaos, offer a listening ear, and provide thoughtful, empathetic insights. But I wanted to go deeper, understanding the connection between mental, emotional, and physical health. This led me to holistic counselling and later nutrition coaching, where I could combine my skills with a passion for wellness to help people live more balanced and fulfilling lives.
As a qualified nutrition coach, I take a practical, balanced approach to supporting clients in building a positive relationship with food and understanding how nutrition impacts mood, energy, and overall wellbeing. Food for me should be a nourishing, social and tasty. Not a set of rigid rules.
Today, I work with both men and women who feel overwhelmed, stressed, or burnt out, helping them slow down, reconnect, and create sustainable habits that support their mental, emotional, and physical health. My approach is warm, conversational, and human. Counselling with me doesn’t feel clinical, it feels like sitting down with someone who truly gets it, because I’ve been there too. I’m also passionate about breaking the stigma around mental health. Just as we prioritise physical fitness, we should normalise seeking support for our emotional wellbeing. Counselling isn’t only for moments of crisis, it’s a powerful tool for building resilience, clarity, and confidence at any stage of life.
When I’m not with clients, you’ll likely find me soaking up the sunshine at the beach, walking outdoors, or enjoying Mexican food (and the occasional margarita). I love travelling, practicing mindfulness, and embracing the simple joys of life.
